Merry Christmas!
3rd Trimester tests
Since it has been so cold, Dennis hasn’t gotten the chance to work on anything that he could get paid for. Good news to me though, he has gotten so much done in the house! He moved the laundry room out to the porch. The baby’s room and the hallway is all sheet rocked. All the lights work now, the hallway, bathroom and the hallway closet. It is so exciting; I never knew a person could be so excited for lights! Since it is going to be crappy again I think he will get it all mudded in time for me to paint on my week off work. He also bought me a washer for my birthday!!! I woke up to an awesome, energy efficient Maytag washer that is top load but has no center console. So, it holds a lot more stuff in it, and exactly what I had wanted.
I guess I kinda updated you with the baby updates. Visiting Amber was fun, I felt bad we didn’t stay two nights but I was so tired I would have been a bore. We ate at Famous Daves BBQ and then we went to Dave and Busters after. If you have never ate a Famous Dave’s I recommend it! It was very good and a lot of BBQ for really pretty cheap. Dave and Buster’s was pretty fun, Dennis had never gone so to be a kid every now and then was really fun. We did a Gene Machine that takes the pictures of two people and transforms it into what your child is to be. I’ll attach a picture, we both thought it was pretty comical. We then went to the Nelson Art Museum in the morning. We stayed away from all the paintings, I figured that if we did that, Dennis wouldn’t mind as well. I was disappointed that the ancient Egyptian exhibit was closed. I thought Dennis would really appreciate that. We went through the Native American exhibit and ancient Chinese exhibit. I do think he enjoyed seeing things that were 1500 years old. I had a good birthday. We went to see the movie The Blind Side, I would recommend it to anyone. It was not the tear jerker like I thought I would be. We ate at Sonic afterwards. I love Sonic, it is one of those places that you have to have the same thing every time you go. For me the cheddar bites, grilled chicken wrap, and diet cherry limeade is the usual order. So, tomorrow I will be going into the hospital in the morning, hungry and board to see if I do indeed have gestational diabetes. I will let you all know next week, cross your fingers for me!

27 weeks
Dennis and I have both LOVED this snow! He has been working hard at home. He has transformed the basement into his little shop. It is all cleared out with tables and everything down there. It is quite impressive. He started today working on getting the laundry room on the porch. He hates every minute of it but it will be so nice to have the baby’s room done! He will get it all done within the next few weeks and then he gets to start on the crib!!
As for me, I have been working nights, a little hard when the guys are downstairs making so much noise. I don’t feel like I can complain though. We have some determined mice in our house too… I have had several traps set out… like always, only I thought I had finally gotten anything that they could destroy and make me unable to use put in the cabinets. Well, I apparently missed a packet of liquid pectin. There may be a mouse or two or a dozen who are stiff somewhere in our basement. After drinking the pectin, they then started in on our canned goods. Yes, the soup sure does look good on the label but you don’t get to taste the soup if you just eat the label! I guess mice don’t understand that because they have eaten the labels off of several of our canned soups and beans. Anyway, this week has been pretty quiet, nothing compared to the week ahead of us. We are off to visit Amber and Ryan in KC tomorrow. I think we are just going to stay Friday night and then come back home Saturday night, so it will be a short trip but one that needs to happen before baby comes along!

Quick trip to the doctors:
There really isnt anything else new or exciting to post about, just living our lives, starting to get cold! Dennis did go hunting on Wednesday afternoon, he siad they saw a few deer but nothing to get. I am glad just because I do not like deer meat... so, shhhh, I'm hoping that he doesn't get one, or gives the meat to someone else! I am taking another day off work on Saturday, so I will have another long weekend. Also, the 1st was my 3 year anniversary at work so it is my last pay raise unless the whole county gets one.

Week 25!
Dennis and I had a great holiday and following weekend. Saturday we went to Manhattan and he got a joiner, so he spent a lot of money but he will be on his way to making that baby crib! He has been transforming the basement into a little shop. That will be really nice for him once he has it all fixed up. He put a few more lights down there last night. I am actually really excited for him. He loves to do all this woodworking stuff but hasn’t had the equipment or the space. When we got back on Saturday, Loren called and had a few of Dennis’s friends in to go out to eat. So, we went to the Windmill and then came back home and played cards for a while. So, I think he had a great birthday.
As far as what I did on my break from work was pretty well nothing. I helped Lex at the flower shop a few days and that kept me busy enough. I actually only had Monday and Tuesday that I did nothing just hung out at home and did my typical day off chores. So, I am back at work just in time for the weather to finally realize that it is December!

HAPPY THANKSGIVING!!!
Before I give you a very short update, I would just like to say in the spirit of Thanksgiving what I am thankful for. I am most thankful for the family and friends that I have in my life, you all do treat me well. I am thankful for Dennis and this baby that is kicking inside of me, my own little family that I would do anything for. I am thankful for a job that I love and I enjoy to going to, even if I do have to work crazy hours. And I am thankful that I am able to be thankful for all of these. I am healthy, I have enough money to feed my family and I have a house to live in. I guess, all in all, I am thankful for everything I have in my life.
This last week has been a quiet one for us all. So a short update; Dennis is done on all the big things in Sabetha! YEAH! I guess just in time for Thanksgiving! I have just been working, I had a few days off and invited Mom and my sisters over to watch My Sisters Keeper. It was a great movie but was really funny at the end of the movie we hear Nikki saying “Oh that just makes me mad.” The ending was different than the book and I figured that was the only other ending…. After I get done working nights I will have 8 days off!! I am very excited for this, not really sure what all I will do but I am excited to take a break from work myself. I got my hair cut on Wednesday too, it was just a trim but I hadn’t had my hair cut since February so it was much needed. The same morning of the coyote escapade, I woke up and my eyes were burning so badly that I could hardly keep them open. I called the eye doctor and somehow managed to make it into town. She told me that I have one of the worse cases of bacterial eye infections that she had seen in quite sometime. She gave me a prescription to put in my eye ever hour that day and every-other hour the next day and then 4x a day after that. That small bottle that holds a whopping 3 mL, costs $100!!!! Thank God that I have great insurance, I only had to pay $20, and wear my glasses for a week. At the start of week 24, Baby has been kicking just as much only harder now. He should be right under 1lb 6oz., or at least somewhere in there. We have a doctor's appointment on Monday, just a check up so I will let you all know how that went later. It will be a long time until I update you again because I will be off work until the 2nd!!! So, I wish you all a great Thanksgiving and hope you eat lots of turkey!

Week 23!
Dennis has been going to Sabetha pretty well every day. It is so good to hear that he is almost done. I know that it will be a huge relief when it is done. He has several jobs around here that will not take that long that he has to do yet. He has been feeling a little under the weather too. Friday he came home after lunch because he wasn’t feeling well. I don’t know if this is just a touch of something but he never gets sick so I do get worried about him pretty quickly. Yesterday he was feeling better so hopefully it is done whatever it was. I know we are all hoping that he will be done in Sabetha by the end of this week.
When we went to Topeka, we took Christmas pictures. They are very cute but WOW did it take all of us adults energy to get them done! All of the kids were tired and so they were not cooperative. Sears did do a good job and they were able to get a good picture of each kid. So I guess that was a successful day. I am almost done with Christmas shopping too!! I just have a few small purchases to make and then I am DONE! I am so excited to get Christmas decorations out. I have been trying to hold off for Dennis’s benefit. Also, Friday, Tara and I baked Christmas cookies. With a minor mess up, we did have a successful day and made several hundred cookies. Time is going by so fast. It seems like Christmas will be here and gone before we know it. That only scares me because I want everything to get done for the baby before he arrives.

Start of week 22 update
As for Dennis and I, we did have a great weekend away. It was nice to see friends that we only get the chance to see once a year or so. I guess that I lied last week about Dennis was done combining. He finished his beans tonight, so now I believe that they are all done. He should have only a week left in Sabetha and then cross your fingers that he will be done!
Wednesday, I did get my H1N1 shot so I should be in the clear! Let’s hope anyway. I have been getting some major headaches and my lower back has been so out of place, so, I called the chiropractor yesterday to set up an appointment and they had a cancelation so I took it. I do feel better but I think I need a lot of work! Turns out that she charges a lot more than others do, I guess I should have done my shopping around before going to someone who charges two times what others charge around here. She is good and I do like her but I think saving $25 would be worth my drive to Sabetha to go to Simpson. With my days off coming up, I am going to go to Topeka with the family again only this time, we are going to get Christmas pictures taken. I have not done this since I was a very small girl! I am also thinking of getting a batch of my Andy Mint Cookies made! With all the Christmas candy out now, it is making me want to start baking yummy candy and cookies. So, here’s to a great 22 week for baby and hopefully Dad can feel him kick this week!

Baby BOY!!!
Wednesday, I went to Sabetha to help Lacy paint some trim at her house. It was really great to see Stephanie and Lacy, I feel like life takes over and we don’t get to see each other very often. Dennis is done with combining and is now just trying to get done in Sabetha. As this job has taken much longer than he had anticipated, he is looking forward to not driving an hour to work soon! For this weekend, it should be great, we are leaving today as soon as I get off work to go see some friends in Western KS, It is close to Greensburg. So, we are looking to be driving a good 4 ½ hours tonight! I hope all has a great Halloween and eats LOTS of candy! I know I will!!!!

20 weeks!!
This week sucked for farm equipment. First off, the chopper attempted to chop a rock. Turns out, that doesn’t work so well. Or does, just adds up a good six to seven thousand dollar bill… I guess that is what insurance is for! So, yes we will only have to pay the deductible but now I am even more worried that the baby’s room will not get done because this will be a winter project. Then, a few days after that happened; something went wrong with the combine. I’m not really sure what happened to it but it is still sitting in the field with corn that is not cut yet. So, hopefully that will be a fix that isn’t too hard and all the guys can get the crops up.
Sunday I got to eat Chinese food! I so wanted Chinese!! And now that a good week has passed, I want a big ol’ plate of beef and broccoli with a side of deep fat fried chicken, or cat, or rat or whatever animal that tastes so darn good. And of course you cant forget that deep fat fried dough coated in sugar! Oh how I love those! Ok, next time we go to Topeka, we ARE eating Chinese!!
The snake is caught! On Tuesday, my nerve grew enough to meander downstairs to see if one of the sticky traps was occupied. And indeed it was. This was also I am sure of it, an America’s Funniest Video winner moment. I poked the dang thing to see if it was still alive or if it was dead. Well, the only last part of it that I saw moved and tried to get further into the stairs. I carefully moved the sticky trap as far back as it would go and hoping that I would kill it, I took a big heave hoe with the shingling fork and just pissed the damn thing off! So, I called Dennis, of course, he didn’t answer so I called my mother-in-law who was determined to get someone to rescue me! (I am so thankful of this, I just new Dennis would give me crap till the day I died if I started calling anyone who would come over) So, Kyle came over and got the snake out for me! I would have stayed to help and also to verify that it was the same snake but I was called into work that day to take a crazy lady to Osawatomie State Hospital. So, I am just telling myself that it was the only lime green and yellow snake that was taking up residency at 2246 H Rd!
Like I said, I was called into work to take crazy lady to the crazy house. This I never mind, I get paid to sit in the car for 6 hours (because that is so different from sitting in front of a computer updating my blog). We got back a little before 5 and I was so excited that it was enough time to go work out at 5:30 at aerobics. So, I went home to change and somehow I got off track and looked at the clock and it was straight up 6 o’clock! I completely forgot! I guess that is the start of pregnancy brain. Hell must have froze over this week too because then on Wednesday Dennis and I went out to eat AGAIN! Loren had the great idea to eat pizza at the Axtell bar. Friday I finally got to enjoy my days off. My sisters, Mom and all the kids and I went shopping in Topeka. I can now get the rest of my Christmas shopping done in town!! You would never believe how we all fit in the van with all of our purchases. It was crazy and a bit fun to watch Mom get in the back between the kiddos. Love you Mom! Saturday, was Trenton’s birthday party. That kid is going to enjoy being a fireman way to much this year! Then on Sunday, I had a Lia Sophia party. It was a fun time and wowzers I get lots of jewelry! My party was big enough that I will get $926 of jewelry for only $120!!! Maybe more, the party doesn’t close until the first.
This week was apparently busier that I thought. This next week will not be much, work, work and more work! Oh ya, that one little thing called a SONOGRAM!!! Yep Tuesday we will get to find out what we are having!! I may be mean and not tell anyone but if Dennis decides to let it slip to every man, woman, and child then I guess I will make the facebook and blog announcement as well!

Lovely Blog Award!
The rules are that I am to award my 15 favorite blogs, well, I don't follow that many so here are the blogs that I do follow:
Of cause my cousin's Amber, Traveling Amber, she blogs about her life living in France. She has some very interesting stories of her now two years living over seas.
My sister, Nikki, The Blogging Mom, who blogs about her kiddos and all the funny things that they do. This is kinda the reason I started blogging, so that I someday can blog about all the cute things my kids do.
Miranda Young, her blog, Our Journey, who the last month and a half hasn't been a good blogger ;) But she blogs about everything from her son to the move into a new house, to her likes and dislikes.
Phoenix's Fight, This is a blog that a co-worker's wife has. She blogs about all of their kids but their youngest Phoenix has Cystic Fibrosis. She blogs about his struggles and triumphs as a little boy with such a hard life.
Lastly, I just started following Emerson Kate Strahm, This is a blog by Kelsi Strahm who is expecting a baby in January. She is married to a classmate of mine from high school.

Night owl!
Dennis had a stressful week. He found out on Friday that someone had gone in the garage that they were building in Sabetha and stole a lot of his tools. He said that Edelman’s were great to work with and gave him a pretty good deal to replace them but even still, he is now out a lot of money missing all those tools. So, having a very upsetting end of the week, he is even more ready for this job to be done, as so is everyone else involved.
I had a great work week. I had Tuesday and Wednesday off and just spent the days pretty lazy. Katie has been a bad girl! She was so great for about three weeks and only ran off a few times. Well, the last four days she has made her way down to our neighbors and visited her buddy, Buddy. If anyone has any ideas at how to train her to stay at home, I would LOVE the suggestions! Dennis had a great idea to have Jeff shoot off a gun when she runs down there. She usually will see a gun and run straight for her kennel. So, I will have to try this trick, I will get some great use out of my 20 gage. Saturday, Kyle and Julie had a house warming party and so we spent the evening there. We will see what this next week has in store for all three of us! I am hoping for Chinese food tonight, cross your fingers!!!!

Pumpkins!
At the start of week 18, my family is finally thinking that my baby is making it known to the world that he/she is coming! It has taken a while but I guess I don’t look just fat, that maybe just maybe I am indeed helping to populate the world. This week baby has been pretty still, at least not active enough for me to notice. Baby is 5 ½ inches long and weighs in at a whopping 5 ounces! At least it isn’t enough yet for Mom-to-be to gain too much weight yet! 16 days until we find out whether we are having a little boy or a little girl growing inside of me!!!!
Dennis has been keeping busy this week between driving to Sabetha and combining. But there really hasn’t been anything to big or exciting for the week. Just the typical day in a life of Dennis Deters, work, work, work!
Besides the whole snake episode this week, I really haven’t had too much either. Yesterday I had a blast having my family come over to paint pumpkins! Amy and Latasha came over with Ella. Ella painted her pumpkin with lots of glitter, I think Latasha may have her hands full for when she gets older and can get anything that is shinny! Madelynn of course picked pink to paint her pumpkin, all different colors of pink! Trenton liked the black and blue approach, and Logan enjoyed painting himself white more so than the pumpkin that was chosen for him. With the help of others, I do think they enjoyed themselves. Madelynn helped me get the seeds out of three pumpkins to roast. She didn’t seem to interested until I did it and then she was all about helping get dirty, I mean get the seed out. Nikki made camel apples that were delicious, and a little hazardous to some people’s teeth! Dad lost a crown in the processes of enjoying this fall treat. They all left about supper time leaving Amy and I. We then decided to finish carving the last two pumpkins that were left. In all, it was a great evening that I hope all enjoyed. (Amy's is the trick or treat and my pumpkin is the monster guy)

Un-wanted visitor!
I had decided to clean up the porch a little in hopes that this would persuade Dennis in having the baby’s room down stairs and not up. The mini refrigerator that is not hooked up did not need to be stored on the porch. So I got it cleared off and decided to take it to the basement. I am carefully taking it down as not to drop it on my feet or worse yet, drop it and make me fall all the way down the rickety, steep stairs. The basement to me has always been a use at own risk place. It is home for many spiders, mice, and other animals that I do not wish to share a dwelling with. So, I make it to about the 4th step left and start looking at the walls fully expecting to find a mouse hanging out on the brick foundation as I have so many time before. I look to my left not seeing anything in their usual hang out spot, and then I look to my right. For a full twenty seconds I am unable to move. I am not really sure what is going through my head nor am I sure if my heart was beating the entire time. Not sure if I was even awake or if it was a dream until my head was able to wrap around what I was seeing. Sure enough, not ten inches from my head was small, green head that was sticking its tonge out rapidly to see what I smelled like and to find out if I was a real predator or not. Attached to its head is a lime green body with a yellow belly that was displaying how well it can wrap itself around wires and how little of a crack it need to get into a space. Only showing about 24-30 inches of it's who knows how long body. Once I came back to reality knowing the situation that I was in, I carefully finished caring the mini-refrigerator down the remaining four steps.
As soon as this task is done without the snake dropping on my head, I managed to take a picture with my phone. I send it Dennis knowing he would do nothing about and think that I left the house for the day. Later finding out he never got the picture of this three foot snake in our house, he would have been right that I left the house for quite some time. I start calling anyone who may know how to get snakes out of a house. My first call, the vet. I know that is not what they do but maybe they would have a trick up their sleeve. Nope, next call, Schendel Pest Control. Again, I know it is not the pest they deal with but they had a solution. Sticky traps. I then left the house and procrastinated going home as long as I could. I buy six of the sticky traps as that is what they advised. I was also told to buy some snake away. As much as I do not want this monster in our home, I am still money conscious… So snake away, thirty dollars, moth balls (apparently the same thing) five dollars. So, I bought some moth balls and now our home smells bad and is the home of the most not wanted animal there is. As the snake is still not captured, I enter my house cautiously and keep a wide open eye at all times. No nightmare happened last night but if this pest does appear in the upstairs, I do believe I will move into my in-laws and work lots of overtime!

Felt baby move!
This week has been pretty laid back for us both. Dennis has chopped a few days but is now getting ready to combine his beans. I believe his beans and corn will be ready right around the same time so he will be busy around the house for a few days next week. He is still working in Sabetha, I believe wishing he could fast forward time with the work getting done too.
I found out yesterday that our cats have distemper. That would explain perfectly why we can’t keep kittens longer than 3-4 months at our house! Thanks to mom who did the research for me. So, now I have to attempt to give them antibiotics twice a day… which they do not like at all. So, our farm animals that we shouldn’t spend much money on, all seem to be on medication right now. Katie is almost done with her antibiotics, the spots are still there but I would say she is no longer contagious. I do think I will get all of our cats the distemper shot once the kittens are done with the antibiotics. That is money I wish not to spend but it is a necessity. I didn't think that it was distemper because the adult cats are fine. I guess they build up an immune to it once they have had it. Besides the animal crisis, I spent Friday baking. I made some pumpkin bread and pumpkin pie meringues. I love pumpkins!! Yea that Dennis doesn’t like the meringues. Those are some of my favorite cookies, so I think I know what I will make more of. At Christmas time, I have a recipe for candy cane and I think eggnog meringues… YUMMY!!! They are supper easy too. Also, the last two days I have been blowing my nose non-stop so let’s hope I’m not getting sick…
I know they don’t read this but HAPPY BIRTHDAY Grandma and HAPPY ANNIVERSARY Grandma and Grandpa Strahm!!! Well, not today but it is right in between!

Visitors!
It was a great weekend. Amber and Ryan, friends from collage came up and spent the weekend with us. I was so glad to see them. It is hard to make time to see each other when we live 2 ½ hours away! I am trying to plan a weekend in December for Dennis and I to go see them in Kansas City… and that is my favorite time of year to go to KC anyway!
I am working nights this weekend. I don’t mind them, it is just so hard to stay awake. Today or yesterday for all the rest of you, I only slept until 11:30 so 4 ½ hours is just not enough for me. Dennis is so sweet in trying to stay quiet for me while I try to get more sleep. I did manage to get another hour and a half before coming in but for me, I like to get at least a full 8 hours of sleep. So, it is only 2:30 and I am already prying my eyes open. 911 calls help me stay awake though….

Week 15
Dennis is still chopping. I keep thinking that the time should be running out on this all the time. I guess that it has just been the same old same old with us again this week. I went to some garage sales on Friday evening with Dottie. The one thing I was really wanting was a car seat for Dennis truck. It is a much older one and I am sure there are many thing wrong with it but I figure that the most he will be taking our kids to is day care and his parents’ house and back. Any farther and we will take my car. I am going to go to a few more in the morning and hope to get a few more things. I would really like to get a high chair. In my dream world I would have found a crib and changing table but like I said, that is my dream world. Dennis has worn off of me quite a bit. We are all about used cheap things… as long as they are okay for our kids to use. I am not sure if my neck is out of place or just has knots in my neck, but it hurts so bad. I am going to go to church on Sunday and get a massage from Tara after.
As far as the request for a picture of a baby bump… you may have to wait until I get a baby bump. Sorry guys! I have taken a few pictures but they are pretty close to before baby pictures so I will post one in a few weeks when it is noticeable.

Time Flys
Not much has really changed with Dennis. He is now chopping Sorgo (not sure how to spell that). He has been having more days off of chopping. This has been nice for around the house. The yard finally was mowed or mini chopped… Dennis’s newest invention.
Today Lacy, Mom and I are going to make spaghetti sauce. I am so ready to be done with garden stuff. I swear those peppers just keep coming! We probably have more than 200 habaneras left just waiting to turn orange. Kent, Trenton and Madi come over today and Madi decided to help and by helping I really mean eating the bell peppers I was picking. I love it so funny, she eats them like an apple. Those kids are welcome at my house anytime! I got to spend the day with Tara on Monday, that was a lot of fun, I don’t get to see her very often so it was fun.

2nd trimester
Dennis spent the week chopping away. He was in Falls City for a few days and somehow we managed to escape the rain so he could finish. Finally this week he will have a few days off. I am hoping getting the yard mowed is on the top of his list of things to do. As I left for work today Noah and Burke came over to help Dennis with this chore.
I found out that Katie has ringworm. It isn’t too bad but it is really gross and it is on her nose and under mouth. I am really hoping that she doesn’t give it to me. Reading about it, it sounds easy to go from human to animal and visa versa. So I need to clean out her kennel this week on my day off and spray it with bleach water. I was also informed that the purple field of weeds the other day is really the alfalfa that turns purple and not weeds at all. Okay, so I still have quite a bit of city in me but what can you do? I was thrilled to death to find out that Angela’s maternity pants fit me. Although I don’t think I will need them for a while, it is nice to know that there are dress pants that fit! This next week is working nights and just cleaning up around the house. I am still looking forward to having more energy and less hunger.

wonderful weather
Not a lot to update you on us, Dennis had a few days off because of the rain. He wasn’t too thrilled about that so hopefully he is getting back to chopping today. I know that will make him happier getting back at it and not having people wait on him.
I have made some habanero jellies this week. They are yummy! Pineapple habanero, apricot habanero, and raspberry habanero are the three kinds that I made. They are the hotness I was wanting with the jalapeno jelly that I made earlier this year. It didn’t make much we do have much more habaneros out in the yard.
I like to go to aerobics once if not twice a week and then walk my three mile route at least three times a week. On my walk yesterday I walked passed a field that is at the 168 and 178 hwy intersection. It was one of those days that just puts a smile on your face. The field has those purple weeds in it among other weeds of course but there had to have been thousands of yellow butterflies! It was amazing! Blue skies, white pillowed clouds, purple fields with thousands of butterflies. It was one of those moments where you just inhale and appreciate life. I really should have gone back to take a picture. As nice as this weather has been I am sure that there will be more of these walks to come.
Sunday, August 23, 2009
This week, Dennis has been very busy. I thought I was going to get to see him more with the rain but some of his people he is chopping for only had ¼ inch of rain so it dried up enough for him to chop. He was so excited because yesterday they had a record breaking day. He chopped 2400 tons in 24 hours!!! I am like most of you and really don’t know how much that is but it sure sounds awesome!! I guess one of the guys that drives a truck sometimes climbed up a power pole to get some great photographs. He took over 300 pictures.
As for me, I drove back and forth to Sabetha quite a bit this week. It was fun to see Tom again. Uncle Doug’s foreign exchange student when he was in high school. It is hard to believe that it was 13 years ago when he was back from Japan. I remember so much of then. It is interesting to hear some insights of other countries on what they think of our country. I did not talk to him about this but hearing what he said to others was interesting to say the least. Going onto this, I work with a very intelligent man; Lawrence Collins. Larry as everyone calls him, is a retired U.S. Navy and has worked as about anything in the field of police you can. He is on the bomb squad in Topeka, he is a trained sniper, he has been about everything except for sheriff and he also is a fire fighter. The only thing he says he will not be is an EMT. He is fun to talk to as he has so much to say. He wrote a letter to our representatives and to our President to the United States. I know that he would not care if I share this because he may start passing this on in e-mails as well as local news papers and radio stations. So with that said, I would like to share the letter he wrote to our state representatives:
I am a very concerned citizen. This is the first time I have written my representatives, and I am doing so because I have had enough of what I see being done to my country via Washington
I am tired of paying ever greater amounts of money to taxes to people who produce bills and laws that I then have to donate large amounts of money to organizations such as the NRA to fight.
I want to say first off that I too am a public servant. I served 20 years active duty in our military and am now in my 15th year as a full time Police Officer. I have taken the same oath of office you have and know what it is to defend the rights of those who employ me. Our oath of office is first and foremost our word to those we serve that we will ensure their rights as guaranteed in our constitution will not be violated on our watch. We have given those who employ us our word on our honor that the supreme law of this land we will support and defend.
Our Constitution is not to be violated or suspended in any way, not to be politically correct, or to serve the greater good. This document is not a ‘living’ or ‘work in progress’. It is an intended by our founding fathers a protection of the American people from tyranny. Our founding fathers warned us to avoid gun control, a welfare state, a police state, entangling foreign alliances, a grandiose and omnipotent central government, enslaving taxation and the list goes on and on.
I see today violations by our federal government of our 1st amendment rights in the suggestions by some that we enact ‘the fairness doctrine’ The 2nd amendment, I don’t know where to start, what part of ‘shall not be infringed’ do our lawmakers not understand? The 2nd amendment is absolutely an individual right and is the one intended to separate a citizen from a subject. It is the right we have to guarantee all the others. The 4th amendment, intrusion into the jurisdiction of local, country and state law enforcement by federal authorities, and the actions of the American Gestapo also known as the IRS. The 10th amendment, the federal government far exceeding its job description by blackmailing the states with their own tax money.
This buy out of businesses within our country, the government owning these companies, the nationalism of health care, this is socialism!!!! Why are my representatives not jumping up and down on their desks screaming ‘you can’t do that’, ‘this is America’!!!
We are republic; citizens have the right to fail. Let these mismanaged companies go under, its taken place before and we survived. You want to put money where it will do some good, hire thousands more border patrol agents and stop supporting illegal aliens with our health care, education, housing, ect.
Also, what about this government program I hear about where we are encouraged to send in the ‘fishy e-mails’ of our neighbors who may be critical of the governments new programs? Wait! Is the year 1938? Is this Germany? My God! … Remember, ‘Those who do not learn from history are doomed to repeat it’.
I am writing this as a citizen frightened for the future of this country, this Constitutional republic. I will do my part as an honest citizen and public servant and I am sure this is not the first letter like this you have received; at least I hope it isn’t.
I pray that the Lord who guided the hand of our founding fathers in the creation of our countries constitution will provide you with the same wisdom and foresightedness in preserving its liberties today. I thank you for your time and service and welcome any response.

baby update
As for Dennis, it is full chopping season now! It is an everyday occurrence and all day occurrence. I worked nights the other day and I literally saw him at 7 AM one day and didn’t see him again until I was home two nights later. That is the down fall for me working nights during chopping season. There are times, we will not see each other for 5 days!
Work has been just as busy this week. At least it seems like it, I didn’t work as much I just haven’t been home much. I was starting on salsa yesterday. I am so glad that Lacy and Jere are able to finish scalding the tomatoes today. Between just being so tired I could hardly keep my eyes open to all the other things I was needing to get done in the house I just couldn’t finish them. So, thank you so much you two!! And by the way, I have such a sweet husband. When I went to help Lex out at the flower shop on Thursday, she said she had something to show me… and she came out with a bouquet just for me! It has beautiful hydrangeas, calla lilies, and agapanthus. So, that made my several weeks to come!
If any of you have not seen the new TNT show Hawthorne, you should. It is a very good drama. Jada Pinket Smith stars as the head nurse in a hospital. It is a very good show. Of course, I am suggesting this show only the week that the season finally will air. Another of my favorites that isn’t quite close to being over Is Army Wives on Lifetime. This is season 3 but I finally got Nikki into it. That is a show that even Dennis doesn’t mind watching. Hawthorne is on Tuesday nights at I think 8 and Army Wives is on Sunday nights at 9. So, new episode tonight, yeah!!!

As for work, I have worked a lot this week, I came in on Sunday night to jail for a few hours for someone who was sick. It has been since March since I jailed so that was a little different getting back there again. Then I worked ten hour shifts in dispatch and now I am going to work later tonight for Miranda so yeah for fourteen hours of overtime! Woo who!
Dennis is on his last week in Sabetha for quite a while… He starts chopping this next week. He already had a minor break down. I think he will get that fixed rather quickly which is great! He said that bad years go in and every other year pattern and that makes this the year… Just pray that is not true this year. Or any year to follow!
At work I do have the privilege of watching TV, movies, ect as long as I can stop them to continue my job as needed. I watched the movie Taken. That was a very good movie! I recommend that to most anyone! There was a movie that I watched several months ago that I could not believe I had never seen before. The Shawshank Redemption is one of the best movies I have EVER seen. I love movies so I do enjoy getting to see so many even if they are rather meaningless and quite frankly, stupid. I have seen many of those as well. Speaking of, I do think I will sign onto Netflix and watch hopefully another recommendation worthy movie!

Just update
Besides that, Dennis is getting excited to chop. He is a little disappointed that it may be another week before he starts. To him, chopping is like a vacation as long as there are no break downs. Tonight we are going out to eat with Mom and Dad, they are taking us out to the Willows. I am pretty excited to see them again, soon, school will start and I will not see them quite as much.
Amy (boss) told me that I have to take some vacation or I will lose it so I went through and picked so that I will only be working two or three weekends from October to the end of December! That will be nice along with a few weeks off… I am excited for that; Dennis says that if this is a good year for chopping then we will be going on lots of weekend trips. Let’s hope it is a great chopping year.
Right now, I am reading My Sisters Keeper. An excellent book! I am not quite done so I am wanting to quite blogging and finish reading. I am hoping that with a day off tomorrow I will be able to finish it. Nikki and Tara and I are going to have a sister’s night when it comes out on DVD. We wanted to go see it in the theaters but I’m not done reading it and Tara hasn’t read it yet either. Anyway, I am not done with the book and I would recommend it to anyone who likes to read a book that makes you appreciate what you have in life. (I do appreciate what I have, just reassures me that any little thing that I may complain about really is meaningless.)

Baby Deters
Besides this news, we have been working on our garden. We just picked all the corn Saturday and will freeze it tomorrow. That is a job! I really don’t have anything else to update… And I am so tired I am having trouble thinking right now, so, I will add more information when I know any!

7/13-7/19
Thursday, I went to Sabetha and Nikki and the kids and I with Mom and Logan attempted to swim. The weather decided differently for us so the kids swam and we talked. It was just as fun. Then later that night, Mimi, Dad, Tara, and Nikki and I went to see the new Harry Potter movie. It was VERY good, I only wish they would have finished it like they did the book. I will not give anything away, since I did to Nikki already but the movie they just stopped it. I guess after two and a half hours you have to say goodnight sometime!
Friday, Mom came to see me and she helped me clean my kitchen window! If you know me you know that I was not able to clean out the spiders and their previous homes without passing out. So, thank you Mom for doing that for me! Now I have a window that opens and I can see out of it! YEAH!!! That is so exciting. I think it is pretty sad that I find it so exciting just to be able to feel the fresh air as I am cleaning the kitchen. If only I could open more windows...
As for Dennis, he has had one long week. Every day this week after construction he continued to work on one thing or another. He hasn’t made it home until dark most nights this week so needless to say, I haven’t seen much of him lately. I guess that is just the beginning of some long months to come! I am trying to think of something really fun to do for his birthday. If anyone has some ideas that would be great!! I was thinking something for a surprise, so if you give me a good idea don’t say anything!! All I know is he needs a much needed break! I don’t think that man has had a day off since May.

Fun Day!
Yesterday was pretty fun. After a not so great day at work, I went home and took an hour nap! AWESOME!! Then Dennis and I did a bunch of summer things together, it was really fun to spend the afternoon together. We went in the garden and picked some corn, onions, cucumbers, and some potatos. Dennis cleaned all the corn and cut if off the cob to freeze it. I was pulling a pork roast that I cooked in the roaster last night so we could freeze that too. It took forever and we dont have a lot to show for it but it was still fun.
Our kittens are growing so fast! All their eyes are open and now they are starting to crawl, before I know it they will be all over the basement and then they would have to go outside.
:(..
This week I am really excited for Wednesday!! Dad is coming over to go fishing and then HARRY POTTER!! I am supper excited for that, ya, you can call me a dork! I found out that the 7th movie will be in 2 parts. One will be released on November 2010 and the second part in July 2011! Enough for now, I will update later!

Camping on the 4th!
It started off on Friday when Nikki and Kent had a party for one of Kent’s cousins. It was a good time, ending with the Sabetha fireworks. Great job Dad! It had been many years since I had seen the fireworks by Sabetha. When we got home then, Dennis stayed home and I went to the Centralia Lake and camped out with my friends. Amy who I don’t get to see much anymore came up and I was very excited to see her. I do miss those days we would go on a whim to Sonic in Hiawatha or Falls City. I am a person who has to have a plan, I have never been able to do this very easily. It is because of this, I enjoy having someone in my life who has made me do these things. Thanks Amy, without you, I would have stayed home most weekends of my high school career! Lacy and Jere were also camping. They have a camper and it is much nicer than sleeping on the cold, hard, bumpy ground. We camp over by the boy scout campgrounds which is great because no one else is around for us to fight with whose music do we hear more, whose dog is fighting with what other dog. It is just great to be us friends out. While camping Lacy made a nice little announcement! Baby Engelken will be here around February 12! YEAH!!! I am so very excited for them.
Saturday we camped out most of the day and it was very cold for July 4th! When the sun did come out it was nice but WOW so cold when not!! We then went to Carol’s parent’s house in Onega to see Luke and Carol. They have had this party for 22 years! It was good to see them, it seems like we don’t get the chance to see them much. After, we went back to the lake and spent the night. I slept in my car both nights (much better then sleeping in the top bed of the camper, a little tight!)
Sunday I went to see Jill! YEAH! It was so good to see her, it seems like such a long time! Who knew the one who was so afraid to fly would someday be a world traveler!
So, here is for a week full of work, freezing green beans, and taking care of baby kittens!

Driving a tractor
Dennis has been busy with construction this summer. He said it will be about 5 more weeks before he starts chopping. I know he is looking forward to this; he looks forward to this every year. At the same time, stressing about it so much he can barely sleep at night. Break downs are no fun so this year, let’s all cross our fingers and say a little prayer that it will all go smoothly.
As for me, in February, I went back full time to dispatching and no more jail. YEAH!! I enjoyed jailing to an extent. Hated the hours! I wouldn’t get home until 11 when he was already asleep, and he would be up and gone by the time I woke up. I was working that shift more than often. Now that I am in dispatch alone, Miranda and I switch our hours around so she is working that shift for me and I am working her days and nights. This works out for the both of us so it is all great!
As for the both of us, things are great! We now have been married for 2 years! I really can’t believe how fast time has gone. It does seem like every time I look at the calendar another month has gone by. As it is now July 1st and chopping season is about to start, I know that it will be over just as quickly and then Thanksgiving and Christmas will be here and gone. This weekend is the 4th and we are planning on camping out with some friends. We have yet to camp out this summer so, we are looking forward to it!!
